Flood Clean-up Information

PERSONAL HYGIENE IS ESSENTIAL DURING FLOOD CLEAN-UP

Proper hand hygiene is essential during this period of intensive flood clean-up. Hands can become heavily contaminated with disease causing microorganisms, washing with soap and water is the most effective way to clean your hands. In this situation, the use of hand sanitizers alone is not as effective as washing with soap and water.

The Medical Health Officer for the Sunrise Health Region reminds those involved in cleaning up that it is important to ensure their tetanus vaccination status is up to date. Adults should update their tetanus vaccine booster once every 10 years. If you sustain a wound during the clean-up process, please consult your health care provider immediately. For more information about the tetanus vaccination, contact Public Health at 306.786.0600.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements
Individuals working on clean-up efforts should wear the following:
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Rubber Boots
  • Splash Goggles
  • N95 Respirators
Everyone is reminded to wear proper footwear to limit exposure. A good walking or running
shoe with a closed toe, closed heel and slip resistant.
