Sunrise Health Region is part of the provincial Saskatchewan Health Authority
Facilities: Canora

A primary health centre and collaborative emergency centre  model of care is used in Canora.

Primary Health Care is team-based care, linking individuals in the community to a care team who will help address their  unique health needs and concerns. Connection to the team is initiated by contact with any one of the  health care professionals on the team.  The Canora primary health care clinic offers extended hours for appointments including evening and weekend appointments. The primary health care centre is not a walk in clinic.  See the information further down on this page on how to make an appointment.

A collaborative emergency centre (CEC) is an innovative new model of care that improves access to emergency care. During the day, emergency department coverage is provided by the team of physicians in the community.  At night and on weekends, the CEC utilizes the collaborative skills of a registered nurse, a paramedic and distance support from a STARS physician specializing in trauma and emergency.  The Canora CEC ensures that emergency care is consistently available.  Since opening Canora has had no emergency service interruptions.

Sunrise Health Region, with financial support from the Province of Saskatchewan and the community of Canora and surrounding area, renovated a section of the Canora Hospital where the primary health and collaborative emergency centre teams are co-located.  Having the primary health and CEC services under one roof provides convenience for the public and improves connection and communications between the health care providers.

Canora Health & Wellness Centre

Appointments are available at the Canora Health & Wellness Centre from   8am – 8pm weekdays, with Saturday and Sunday appointment options available.  The Health and Wellness Centre is located in the Canora Hospital and can be accessed through the North West entrance.  By appointment, you will have access to physicians and a nurse practitioner practicing in Canora and other primary health care professionals (such as chronic disease consultants, dietitians, mental health counselors, etc) who may be either on-site, visiting services, referrals, or linked via Telehealth.

For non-urgent care it is important to schedule an appointment at the Canora Health & Wellness Centre.  A scheduled appointment will allow you to see a physician or nurse practitioner at a known time, will reduce your personal waiting time to see your provider, and will help the Clinic avoid backlogs of patients. The Canora Medical Clinic is not intended to be used on a walk-in basis. To schedule an appointment with a physician or nurse practitioner at the Canora Health & Wellness Centre call 306-563-5557.

With the CEC in place, emergency services at the Canora Hospital are available consistently for 24 hours a day and seven days a week.  Non-urgent patients coming to the Canora Hosptial will be asked to make an appointment at the Canora Medical Clinic.
