University of Saskatchewan partnership
Since 2012, Sunrise Health Region, the University of Saskatchewan – College of Nursing (U of S) and Parkland College have been in partnership to facilitate graduate nursing education opportunities in the region and to enhance professional nursing practice.
Dr. Karen Semchuk joined the region as the Director of Professional Practice to work onsite with the region to provide leadership in professional practice and clinical education. This initiative was made possible through the University of Saskatchewan-College of Nursing graduate program and the E-Learning Centre. The support for distributed learning allows Dr. Semchuk to continue to teach for the University while providing leadership in education and professional practice in Sunrise Health Region.
The purpose of this partnership is to stimulate a ‘learn where you live’ environment, with hope to encourage nurses to further their education and continue to meet the needs in building a healthier Saskatchewan.
Seymour the Robot
In November, 2015 Sunrise Health Region, in an extended partnership with the University of Saskatchewan and Parkland College, unveiled the new instructional robot, Seymour.
This project is assessing the impact and potential of robotics to enhance education and outreach. Seymour enhances instructional courses at the Parkland College and the mentorship provided by the Yorkton Regional Health Centre preceptors.
This technology allows a physician or specialist to instantly connect with a patient remotely, and perform real-time assessment, diagnosis and patient management, helping to deliver timely care to patients in their own community.
